Mathenge Technical Training Institute was founded in the year 1985 by His Excellency, the late president Mwai Kibaki, the third President of the Republic of Kenya who by then was the area MP.
At its inception the institute offered training in artisan and craft certificate courses due to the growing numbers of standard eight and form four leavers of the 8.4.4. system of education at the time. The institute today offers a wide range of diploma and certificate courses.
